Making A Purchase
Cakes
Our novelty cakes are handcrafted freehand and made to your specific order. We do not give exact dimensions however portion sizes are based on 5cm by 2.5cm size portions (2" by 1"). Fruit cakes are based on 2.5cm by 2.5cm size portions (1" by 1"). Our standard cakes are more than 6cm deep which is much deeper than anything available in the retail shops and therefore better value.
If you cannot see the design you are looking for on our website please contact us and we will try our hardest to meet your request.
Sponge and chocolate cakes do not contain nuts as an ingredient but there may be nut traces present as we do use nuts in our other cakes and marzipan. Our carrot cake and fruit cakes do contain nuts.
Our cakes contain dairy products and British eggs.
We are able to supply special dietary requirements if requested e.g. organic, gluten free. Please contact us.
Pictures and photographs used on our website are for general illustration only. As our cakes are handmade to order the product may vary slightly from that shown. They will be decorated to the same standard as the picture.
Making a purchase could not be easier. Just browse our store, and add any items that you wish to buy into the shopping basket. After you have finished your selection, click on 'Checkout' and you will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to complete the order.
We accept credit card payment. If you are shopping outside the UK please place your order and your credit card company will convert the transaction to your own currency.
You may send your credit card information via phone or over the Internet.
Please check your order thoroughly before payment. After your cake has been ordered and paid for, any further alteration will carry a £10.00 administration fee. We will send an order confirmation via email with your cake details specified. If there are any mistakes please notify us immediately. Your cake will be produced to the specification in the order confirmation.
We require 7 working days notice on all cakes ordered except for edible photo cakes where we require 10 working days. Occasionally we may not have the resources to meet demand. If we are not able to produce your order we will notify you via email. Sometimes we can fulfil shorter order times. If you require a cake within 7 working days please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your order. Any order paid for that requires delivery within 7 working days, without prior agreement from us, which we are unable to produce, we reserve the right to charge a £5.00 fee to cover our bank charges.
TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT WE SUGGEST YOU ORDER YOUR CAKE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO ENSURE WE CAN MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS.
Cakes can be ordered as far in advance as you want.
If you cannot see the cake you would like please contact us as we can fulfil most requests.
Cake Storage and Shelf Life
We recommend that all cakes are stored in a cool dark place on a flat sturdy surface.
Please do not store cakes in the fridge as this will cause condensation to form on the cake when it is removed from the fridge and may damage the decoration.
All our cakes will stay fresh for a minimum of 5 days from delivery. Our rich fruit cakes have a minimum shelf life of 6 months

You may download or print a single copy for your own non-commercial off-line viewing. General Terms
The Icing and The Cake shall not be held liable for any consequential loss to the customer whether this arises from a breach of contract or any other way.
The Icing and The Cake's total liability for any claim howsoever arising shall not exceed the price paid by the customer for the goods supplied by The Icing and The Cake.
Your statutory rights are not affected by any statement contained in this document or on our website. English law applies to all transactions.
Acceptance
By placing an order with The Icing and The Cake either through our website, over the telephone, or direct in person or any other medium you are agreeing to these terms.
Working Days
Working days are Monday to Friday excluding Public Holidays in England.
Delivery
All our cakes are presented on cake boards and packed in white cake boxes. The cakes delivered by courier overnight are securely packaged in corrugated cardboard boxes to ensure they reach the delivery address in perfect condition. Cakes sent by courier for same day delivery are packed in white cake boxes.
Cakes purchased on line can be collected or delivered, as specified on the cake photo page, to the United Kingdom. It is important that the delivery address supplied is accurate, and a telephone contact number is also given for the day of delivery. If the address given is incomplete or incorrect in any way we can accept no liability for late delivery or non-delivery.
Cakes are delivered between Monday and Friday. We are not able to specify delivery times. Once your cake has left our address the courier is in control of the delivery process, so we recommend you choose a delivery date at least one day prior to the date required to avoid any disappointment. N.B. There maybe factors beyond the courier's control e.g weather conditions, road closures, which could prevent the courier delivering on your specified delivery date.
A signature is required on receipt. If nobody is available to take receipt delivery may be attempted to a neighbour or left in a safe place specified by you. Otherwise a card will be left with details of how to arrange redelivery or collection.
If delivery is attempted and the courier is unable to leave the cake the responsibility is with you to arrange redelivery or collection. We will do everything possible to ensure your cake arrives on time but we cannot accept liability for any late deliveries, damage or returns if no one is available to accept the delivery.
Although we cannot track the progress of your item we are able to obtain confirmation of delivery should this be required. In the unlikely event that a cake is lost during transit, we must be notified within 48 hours of expected delivery. Compensation may be available up to a maximum of the price paid by the customer if the cake cannot be traced and is confirmed lost by the courier.
Credit Card Security
We accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, Switch, Solo, JCB, Maestro and Electron cards. When you reach the payment section of our website you will be taken to our bank approved payment service provider - SecPay.
SecPay is a payment service provider who has the facility to accept credit card payments over the internet securely. An encrypted security system called SSL ("Secure Socket Layer") is used. This is a system which takes your name, address, order details and shipping information and encrypts them so that only we can view them. It creates a direct connection between your computer and ours which can not be intercepted by any third parties

Customer Complaints
Your order will be very carefully packaged so that it arrives in perfect condition.
If in the unlikely event the cake is delivered and is incorrect you must let us know of the problem on the day of delivery.
Please be assured we take complaints very seriously. We are glad to say complaints are rare. Some complaints may require further investigation and an immediate refund may not always be possible.
Cakes, or part of cakes, must be returned within three days to us at the buyer's cost and must include the original packaging to ensure we are able to fairly assess the nature of the complaint.
The maximum refund we offer is the value of the cake plus delivery. Further compensation is not available.

Privacy Policy
The Icing & The Cake, do not disclose buyers' information to third parties other than when order details are processed as part of the order fulfilment. In this case, the third party will not disclose any of the details to any other third party. We are committed to protecting your privacy. We will only use the information that we collect about you lawfully (in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998).
The type of information we will collect about you includes your name, address, phone number and email address.
Your payment card details will only be retained by SecPay and their acquiring bank. SecPay processes your payment and arranges with us for your goods to be dispatched. In the case of a suspected fraudulent transaction, card details may be disclosed to us by SecPay for the sole purpose of performing further checks. We are not permitted to retain these details.
We will never collect sensitive information about you without your explicit consent.
The information we hold will be accurate and up to date. You can check the information that we hold about you by emailing us requesting a copy. If you find any inaccuracies we will delete or correct it promptly. This service carries a charge of £10.00.
Cookies are used on this shopping site to keep track of the contents of your shopping cart, to store delivery addresses if the address book is used and to store your details if you select the 'Remember Me' Option. They are also used after you have logged on as part of that process. You can turn off cookies within your browser by going to 'Tools | Internet Options | Privacy' and selecting to block cookies. Returns Policy
Refunds and Cancellations
We want you to be completely satisfied with every purchase that you make from us. All our cakes are made to order and personalized to your specifications. Should you wish to change your order at any time please contact us immediately and we will do our best to meet your needs.
After your cake has been ordered and paid for, any further alteration will carry a £10.00 administration fee.
Cancellation of Order
Cancellations can only be made within 24 hours of the order bring placed as each cake is prepared and personalised specially for you. Any cancellations will carry a £15.00 administration fee.
